Troop 202 is a well established Boy Scout Troop serving the youth in West Des Moines, Iowa since 1966. The troop is in the Twin Rivers District of the Mid-Iowa Council. We have an active troop committee, a large scoutmaster staff, and strong parent involvement. Together, the boys and the adults make a program second to none.

Troop 202 is dedicated to offering scouts a quality program that includes an extensive outdoor program, opportunities throughout theTroop 202 year for public service, and advancement opportunities matched to the Scout's individual goals and abilities.

The troop is dedicated to keeping the "outing" in scouting. During an average year, a scout will have the opportunity to camp close to 40 days. We camp every month except December - regardless of the weather. A central part of the camping program is Summer Camp at Camp Mitigwa, near Luther, Iowa. This is a fun filled week for Scouts of all ages and gives them the opportunity to earn several merit badges, learn and grow.

Scouts at Troop 202 have the opportunity to help with many public service projects. During the Walnut Creek Clean-up, scouts pickup garbage in and along the banks of a section of Walnut Creek. In April, we help the Walnut Woods State Park in picking up branches fallen from winter damage. Scouts have volunteered to serve food at the Eddie Davis Community Center, which helps underprivileged children; and collect donations for the Salvation Army by ringing the bell.

Troop 202 emphasizes not only the fun but the learning process. Scouting is an excellent organization for a boy to learn leadership skills. In addition, the Scout Oath and Law give the Scout a foundation for life. Advancement marks the learning process for a scout. As the scout advances from tenderfoot to eagle Scout, he must master many skills. Throughout this process, the scout meets with scoutmasters and boards of review to display his knowledge and growth.
