Welcome to Troop 582, a proud member of the Northern Star Council, Scouts BSA. We are honored to be chartered by Word of Peace Lutheran Church, and for the past 52 years, we have been committed to helping young people fulfill the mission of Scouts BSA: "To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Laws."

Troop 582 embraces the vision of Scouts BSA to "prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader, guided by the Scout Oath and Laws." As they progress through our program, Scouts will acquire the tools necessary to become adults of integrity, who are physically and mentally fit, ready to be outstanding citizens.

Why Join Scouting? Now more than ever, Scouting equips young people with essential life skills. Our boy-led program encourages teamwork and leadership development. Additionally, Scouts in boy-led programs take responsibility for planning and executing their own initiatives.

In today's world, young people often spend excessive time in isolation, engaged in television, video games, mobile apps, and online activities. This hinders their ability to work in groups and develop leadership skills. Scouting provides the practical experience needed to prepare them for a future where teamwork and leadership are crucial, particularly in professional settings.

As stated in the Scoutmaster Handbook, Chapter 3, "The Boy-Led Troop": "Empowering boys to be leaders is the core of Scouting. Scouts learn by doing, and what they do is lead their patrols and their troop. The boys themselves develop a troop program, set goals, and then take responsibility for figuring out how they will achieve their goals."
