Welcome to Troop 177

Greater New York Council, Richmond Hill, NY

Welcome to Troop 177. We are a group of scouts, adult leaders and parent volunteers committed to providing a fun, scout-led, outdoor-focused scouting experience that follows the current Scout BSA Scouting Program. The three aims of Scouting are character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

If you are interested in learning more about scouting and Troop 177, please contact our Membership Chair at Boy Troop or Girl Troop.

Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Join in on the Adventure!

Scout BSA, Troop 177 Boys, is one of the oldest sout Troops in Queens and Scout BSA, Troop 177 Girls is the very first Scout BSA Girls Troop in Richmond Hill--togther they are independent troops that shares a linked adult committee--Troop 177.

Our Troop offers a very exciting  full year program which includes camping trips, day trips, community service, family events and a week-long summer camp at Camp Aquahonga  Our weekly meetings focus on rank advancement, scouting activities and fun!

How Do I Join?

Getting started in our Troop is quite easy. Youth can join a Scout troop who are 11, but not yet 18 years old, have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light  rank and are at least 10 years old.

Our annual dues are $155 which covers the cost of BSA dues and running the Troop for such items as badges, meeting supplies, equipment purchases, etc. Here is a direct link to our online application for Troop 177 (youth or adult). All parents and adult volunteers pay $60 for the annual dues. Payments are made online using the links below.

There are some additional costs, including a BSA Handbook and BSA uniform. Additional supplies and equipment may be needed for certain activities such as camping trips or field days.

We encourages scouts and parents to attend at least two meetings before submitting an application. Troop 177 have four adult committies that supports the scoutmaster in administrative tasks and troop logistics. When parents join, they join a committee of intrest. A strong committee means Troop 177 is delivering a top quality scouting program.
