How to Join Us

= HOW TO JOIN US =

FIRST, COME FOR A VISIT!

The best way to get to know us is to visit us during a troop meeting.  We do not meet every week, so check the Upcoming Events panel on the troop website.  The Scouts usually have something fun planned, and it will give you an opportunity to see our troop in action. Boys who are interested may visit troop meetings before joining, but they must be a troop member to attend campouts or other outings.

MEMBER EXPECTATIONS:  SOME THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU JOIN

DUES: Dues are $160 for the calendar year, and are due in full before the Scout's application will be processed.  New and transfer Scout dues are pro-rated at $13.33 per month.  (See the Prorated Dues Chart below.)

MEETINGS: Our troop meetings are typically held on Mondays from 7:00 to 8:15 pm at the Desert Sky Middle School (in the MPR or Library) at 9850 E. Rankin Loop in Rita Ranch.  We do not meet every week, so check the main page for dates and location.

INVOLVEMENT:  Parental involvement has always been the secret to our success!  Parents should, at the very least, keep up with their Scout's progress in his Handbook and help him keep up with his requirements.  In addition, the Troop can always use help from parents with planning, organization, record-keeping, and transportation - not to mention Committee positions and Assistant Scoutmasters.  Please talk to any of the unit leaders about how you can help!

Once your Scout is a member ...

REQUIRED ITEMS:  Scouts are expected to be on time and in uniform, and have their Scout Handbook with them for all troop meetings and events.  Visit the Scout Store at 2250 E Broadway for all your BSA needs.

The official Troop 772 uniform is:

  • Tan BSA shirt (tucked in) with:
    • Catalina Council patch
    • Tan/green '772' numerals
    • Rank patch, if applicable
    • Set of green BSA shoulder loops*
    • Patrol Patch, once assigned*
    • Position Patch, if applicable*
  • Black troop neckerchief with slide*
  • Standard green BSA hat (not pictured)
  • Merit Badge sash (for formal occasions)
  • Pants: Shorts, jeans, or hiking pants may be worn
  • Shoes: Closed-toe shoes only - no sandals, flip-flops, etc

*Troop provides your first one, free of charge.

Parent Suggestions: 1. Get the coil-bound Scout Handbook, it lasts longer. 2. Buy the shirt a half-size too big, he will grow into it. 3. Get the larger sash even if it's huge on him; he WILL need the big one eventually.  4. Write your Scout's name and Troop number on his Scout clothes and equipment; a Rub-a-Dub marker and No-iron Avery labels work great.

READY TO JOIN?

So you have decided to join us. Good choice!  Parents, to get started follow these steps:

1. Download a BSA Youth Application.  To save time and paper, we only need the third page, "Local Council Copy". Print and fill this page out completely, including your signature.

2. Download the BSA Medical Forms.  For now you will need to complete parts A and B (part C will be needed for longer outings, like Summer Camp). All Scouts must have Parts A and B on file to participate in outings, so don't forget them!  We use parent's information as the Emergency Contact for your Scout, unless you tell us otherwise.

3. Use the pro-rated dues chart below to determine your dues, and write a check to "Troop 772" for that amount.  Remember, we cannot submit your Scout's application until his Dues are paid, so don't forget this step.

4. Using the "Upcoming Events" panel on the LEFT SIDE of the Troop Website, find our next scheduled TROOP MEETING.  Note the date, time, and location. Bring your completed medical forms, application, and your dues check to the troop meeting and introduce yourself to any adult leader (look for a uniformed adult) and let them know you are interested in joining.  NOTE: Be sure you come to a TROOP MEETING, as we may not be able to help you at an outing or ceremony.

5. Once your application is processed, you will receive log-in information for the Troop Website. You will have member-access to all areas, including the very important Parent Handbook, helpful links, advancement resources, troop calendar, rosters, and more. You will also receive an invitation when we have our next Newcomer's Orientation.

IMPORTANT:  You will also receive an invitation to our private Facebook group. PLEASE accept this invitation! We use our Facebook group for much of our communication, coordination, and photo sharing. If you are not on Facebook, we HIGHLY encourage you to set up an account, even if it is just to access the troop page.

That's it - your son is now officially a Boy Scout in Troop 772!  Check the calendar, and we'll see you at the next meeting.  For a list of suggested camping equipment and packing checklists to get you started, click here.
